Our
Founder's Story

By My Nguyen

What inspired me to start my non-profit was the challenges I faced growing up. As a young immigrant kid who moved to the United States at the age of three and had no comprehension of English, I struggled to understand my environment, which directly affected my ability to socialize and communicate with peers. Every time my Kindergarten teacher gave me an assignment, the words were foreign scribbles to me, and no matter how hard I tried to understand them, I couldn't, as you can only learn a language so quickly. However, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday was my favorite day of school because that was when we had art class. Every time I drew, my peers could understand a part of me as an individual, and would praise my work. The joy I had felt in that moment couldn't be described in words, because now my peers could finally see me. From then on, art became one of my earliest ways of communication. But art supplies were a luxury when your parents were struggling to establish a place in America, as I couldn't ask for more than I had already received. As I grew up, I continued to pursue art and realized that art and the supplies should never be limited by circumstances beyond our control. It continues to fuel my passion for making art available to all the young children in the world, especially those in poverty, fighting against illness, language barriers, and more. I'm able to do this through my non-profit, Little Art Dreamers, which helps provide these children with supplies that help empower them, grow, and focus on emotional health. We as a team make sure to put in as much effort as possible to fulfill our mission through our posters, media, and more. Especially with the growing rates of declining mental health issues seen in young individuals. We help by, for example, our team was sent to a school to introduce our non-profit and expand it to the children there, and provided free art supplies for the students there to help with emotional growth and educate them. As art was and still is a powerful way of helping me express myself, communicate with my peers, and understand my environment, I hope it also is to the young children in the world.
